Every order in Address Validator’s Order history gets one status that says what happened to its shipping address. The same answer is added to the order in Shopify as a tag starting with AV-, so you can filter orders, build Shopify Flow automations or hold fulfilment on the ones that need a look.
Three things to know before the full list.
The status describes the address the order was finally placed with, not every attempt along the way. If a buyer typed an invalid address and then fixed it, the order is simply Valid.
Each status has a matching tag on the order in your Shopify admin, plus extra tags for delivery rules, autocomplete and blocking. Every tag starts with AV-.
In Shopify, open Orders and search for a tag, for example tag:AV-unverified. Shopify Flow can react to the same tags, for example to hold fulfilment.
Shown in the Status column of Order history. Hover the info icon next to a status in the app for the exact reason.
| Status | Tag | When it appears | What you can do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Valid | AV-valid |
The address was confirmed as deliverable exactly as entered, or the buyer picked it from autocomplete. |
Nothing — ship as usual. |
| Correction suggested | AV-correction-suggested |
There is a corrected version of the address. On Shopify Plus we showed it to the buyer at checkout and they didn’t confirm it. Below Plus we find it on the Thank you page, after the order is placed, so the buyer never sees it — only you do. |
Glance at the address before fulfilment; open the order in Order history to see our suggestion. |
| Corrected | AV-corrected |
The buyer applied the corrected address we suggested (“Use suggested address”), or the order shipped to it. |
Nothing — the order ships to the standardized address. |
| Original kept | AV-original-kept |
We suggested a corrected address and the buyer kept the one they typed (“Keep my address”), or undid our automatic correction. |
Usually fine — buyers know their address. Check it if the difference looks important. |
| Auto-corrected | AV-auto-corrected |
Your store is set to Apply the corrected address automatically, and we replaced the address with the standardized one without asking the buyer. |
Nothing — the order ships to the corrected address. |
| Unverified | AV-unverified |
The address was checked but couldn’t be confirmed as deliverable, and the buyer placed the order anyway — in Warn mode, or in Block mode when the block couldn’t stop the checkout. |
Contact the buyer to confirm the address before you ship. |
| Status | Tag | When it appears | What you can do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Validation unsupported | AV-validation-unsupported |
Address validation isn’t available for the shipping country. |
Nothing to fix — your delivery rules still apply. Free, unless one of your delivery rules matched the address. |
| Validation unavailable | AV-validation-unavailable |
The check couldn’t run: the address service returned an error or timed out. Checkout continued normally — we never block a buyer because of our own outage. Orders from before October 2026 on stores below Shopify Plus show it too: back then the Thank you page checked only your delivery rules. |
Check the address manually if it matters. Free, unless one of your delivery rules matched the address. If you see many of these, write to support. |
| Blocking not applied | AV-blocking-not-applied |
One of your delivery rules set to Block (PO box, military address, country, state or province) matched, but the order went through. |
Review the order before fulfilment. To stop such orders at checkout, turn on Allow app to block checkout on the Address Validator block in the checkout editor (Shopify Plus only). |
| Check skipped | AV-check-skipped |
We deliberately didn’t check the address: your free checks are used up and usage billing isn’t turned on, address validation is turned off in Settings, or too many checks arrived from your store at once. |
Turn on billing or validation in the app if you want these orders checked. |
| Status | Tag | When it appears | What you can do |
|---|---|---|---|
| No check recorded | AV-no-check-recorded |
An order placed through your online store with no address check from us — most likely the Address Validator block isn’t on your Checkout or Thank you page. The tag is added 15 minutes after the order at the earliest, to give a late Thank you page check time to arrive. Orders created in the admin, on POS or by other apps never get it: they don’t go through checkout. |
Open the checkout editor and make sure the Address Validator block is on the Checkout page (Shopify Plus) and on the Thank you page. |
Anything else — write to support@address-validator.app.
Address validation is billed once per checkout ($0.04), for the first answer we give — however many times the buyer edits the address. An answer is a verdict on the address, or a delivery rule that matched — at checkout on Shopify Plus, on the Thank you page below it. So Valid, Correction suggested, Corrected, Original kept, Auto-corrected, Unverified, Blocking not applied are billed; Check skipped and No check recorded never are; Validation unsupported and Validation unavailable are free unless one of your rules matched the address. Your first 50 checks are free. Autocomplete is billed separately, $0.05 per address the buyer picks (AV-autocomplete-used).
No. The app only adds tags starting with AV-, and only removes its own tags when they stop being true — for example, when a late check arrives. Your own tags are never changed.
Some information arrives after the order: below Shopify Plus the Thank you page check often lands a few seconds after the order itself, and the shipping address tells us whether the buyer took our correction. The app then updates its tags so they always match the status in Order history.
No. Tags only name an outcome, such as AV-unverified. See the Privacy Policy for what the app stores.
Shopify only lets apps show banners inside checkout on Shopify Plus. On other plans the app checks the final address and your delivery rules on the Thank you page, right after the order is placed. Your orders still get a real status — Valid, Correction suggested, Unverified, Blocking not applied and so on — but never Corrected, Original kept or Auto-corrected: those need the buyer to choose at checkout.
